Destructive derecho blasts Midwest

A deadly derecho stretching nearly 500 miles left a path of destruction across the Midwest on Monday.

A powerful derecho brought hurricane-force winds and at least three tornados to the Midwest on Monday. Our WeatherRadar caught this powerful line of storms. This long-lived and powerful wind storm left damage from Iowa to Indiana and into the Chicago metro. A path of nearly 500 miles!

It was an especially scary situation for passengers at Chicago's O'Hare Airport. A tornado was reported just outside of the airport and passengers in planes on the tarmac posted videos of their experience as planes rocked back and forth in the high winds. More than 60 flights were cancelled and 400 delayed.
